The Clark Athletics Center Upgrades grew from a University-sponsored Title IX report, comparing opportunities for male and female athletes. While evident that women had fewer resources than their male counterparts, the report also brought to light potential upgrades needed to bring locker rooms and student support spaces up to NCAA standards.
As UMass Boston prepares to recenter on its soon-to-open central quad, the Clark and Softball projects become a gateway to campus athletics. A replacement field includes a grandstand for 300 seats, pitching/batting cages, lights, scoreboard, and technology for live broadcast.
Landscape elements extend the carpet of pavers from the main quad; Beacon Athletics graphics on screens of metal and wood create a visual narrative for the multiple programs supported by the facility.
