The Castle Square Apartments project involves a deep energy retrofit of two existing buildings: a mid-rise and garden apartment. The project scope included delivering a new facade system that would qualify for LEED Platinum, a complete interior renovation for 500 residential units, redesigning the common areas, including a new landscaped plaza, and constructing a new community center.

Additional scope of work included HUD’s “Green Retrofit Program” funding application to subsidize the expenses related to the green features, such as added roof insulation, improved glazing/windows, high-performance boilers, and low VOC materials and finishes. USGBC rating system LEED Platinum was achieved.

The project was included in the Department of Energy Resources’ “Deep Energy Retrofit” list of the midrise buildings along Tremont Street.
